The Ten of Pentacles in Tarot

The Ten of Pentacles and its Meaning in a Tarot Reading

The Ten of Pentacles presents us with the image of an elderly man who seems to be enjoying significant abundance and wealth.

Visual Description of the Card:

The Ten of Pentacles shows a city scene where a patriarch, surrounded by his family and dogs, wears a richly decorated robe with images of vines, crescents, and other symbols. Behind the two women happily chatting under the archway, a child reaches out to pet one of the dogs.
This card is a symbol of financial security, accomplishment, and comfort.
The patriarch can rest and enjoy the fruits of his labor in his old age while looking on with satisfaction at the lives of his children and grandchildren.

The Ten of Pentacles indicates that this is a person who has achieved a lot in their lifetime and can now rest, knowing that what they have created will continue to provide value and joy to others, even after they are gone.

The Ten of Pentacles in the Upright Position

The Ten of PentaclesGeneral Meaning:

This positive Ten represents wealth, inheritance, abundance; family stability; prosperity; satisfaction; discovered treasures; lottery wins; family unity and support, and a family business. Family, establishment, comfortable retirement.
This card represents not just success, but achievement. The achievement here can be strictly material, but it can also extend to any area of your life. After difficulties and turbulent times, you reach the end of the road, the goal, and you can fully enjoy it.

This could be your finances, a successful business venture, building a family, a romantic relationship, a social standing, professional reputation, or a personal project.

If you haven’t achieved this yet, this card strongly suggests that you will, and it will be very significant.

This goal, achieved not without effort, fills you with satisfaction and pride, while also making you feel that it’s not just for you, but that you should share it with others, with your loved ones, so they too can benefit from your success.

This card is all about being a provider and offering protection and peace of mind. Like a retired family patriarch who, after years of struggle, holds a solid position and finds happiness not in what they possess but in giving it, in providing for others, securing their present and future, feeling that they can now rest because they’ve achieved what they desired for everyone.

There’s a connection to family here, or if you don’t have a family, it could be your closest circle, a social group, or even a business partnership. If it’s about family, you’re pouring all your energy and effort into achieving that “retired patriarch” feeling—a good material life, but also emotional and spiritual richness, as money is only part of our lives. True happiness often comes from more intangible, subtle things. You want “the full package” of happiness and abundance to provide for your people.

This card speaks to how essential and meaningful family is and how it gives purpose to our lives. You are part of something bigger than yourself, a whole, with history and tradition, carrying the experiences of those who came before you. You’re part of something larger—a group, a tribe, a village, and eventually an entire society.

A structure and an order where life unfolds, and the more stable and happy that is, the more complete, secure, and comfortable our existence will be, along with that of future generations. All this involves feeling family, being part of it, and living and acting based on its principles.

Therefore, this card also talks about gratitude and sharing. All achievements are much more valued and enjoyed when shared with others, and gratitude is the great force that moves good things in our lives. You probably already know this as well as I do.

It’s clear that Pentacles point to the material world, so this card predicts abundance and blessings in your material fortune. The amount itself isn’t what matters, as it varies for everyone; what’s important is that you’ll feel like you have everything you need, that you’re content, and there’s no need for more because you’re fulfilled.

You’ll be far from financial risks and problems, protected by financial security, and luck is on your side now, or will be soon, to bless you.
But there’s more: This isn’t just a short-term, momentary success. It stretches into the future.

It’s about creating a legacy, ensuring that what you achieve now will carry on into the future, remaining solid and enduring over time. The benefits are long-term, so if you’re still on your way to success, keep your focus on long-term goals. It’s not just about winning a battle now or having a success today, no matter how bright and wonderful. It needs to be supported for the future.

Whatever question you’ve asked the tarot, this card brings a positive and certain success, in the present and the future. So, if things aren’t going well in your life, in any area, the Ten of Pentacles tells you that everything will turn out fine, things will change, and blessings will come to you and stay.

Few cards in the deck are as happy as this one, and when other favorable cards appear in the reading, there’s no doubt that you’ll be touched by the magic wand of the universe’s grand order. Even if it doesn’t seem like it right now, or your situation is the opposite of wealth, abundance, achievement, and prosperity. And remember, while this prosperity may be grounded in the material, it extends to all areas of your life.

In Love

The Ten of Pentacles brings a time of great happiness. It’s the strengthening and stability of a relationship, solidifying for the future. It’s also a card of deep commitment, which can announce formal engagements, forming a couple, moving in together, or marriage, happy weddings of those close to you, the conception of a child, or a joyful birth.
You’re likely to enjoy a period of peace and calm in love, free from arguments, jealousy, and fights. There’s communication, and certainly, some happiness brought by money, such as purchases, a few luxuries, outings, or trips.

Above all, no arguments will arise over financial issues, which is often a source of conflict for many couples in today’s chaotic world. It’s also a fantastic sign for family life in general, with good and peaceful relationships with parents, children, and/or grandchildren.

If you’re single, the arrival of a great love is imminent. It’s also likely that this person is well-off or at least financially stable and secure in their life.

In Work

The Ten of Pentacles predicts all kinds of progress—whether it’s promotions, salary increases, better job positions, or relocations to better cities with financial improvements.
It’s the successful completion of a project or the signal to take the first step with all the blessings on your side. There’s recognition from superiors, peers, or subordinates. Success and financial gain are right at your door, even if you can’t see how that’s possible right now.

If you’re looking for work, there’s no doubt that you’ll find it, and it will be much better than you’ve expected or planned. Advancement will be fast, as will the flow of money coming your way.

This card is shouting at you not to give up, even if your current situation is tough, because just around the corner, good luck and fortune await you.

In Money and Finances

The Ten of Pentacles rains down its gold coins. Here, any financial question has a resounding YES as an answer. Everything is optimism and gain. If you’re starting a business or venture, you should absolutely go for it because it’s destined for success.
Your investments and savings grow, your profit increases, and everything in this card invites you to be filled with well-being and financial abundance. Even luck and chance are on your side right now, so a bonus gain from a game or lottery isn’t out of the question. It’s a time of well-being, abundance, and complete calm when it comes to money. Save, but also spend and enjoy; share.

But be careful, it doesn’t mean you’ll become a millionaire overnight. It’s all about what you internally consider sufficient and good for your life. You may not need luxury yachts, and your happiness might be achieved with far less.

This card provides wealth in relation to what your true needs and aspirations are. Do you feel like you’ll never own a boat? That it’s impossible? That you don’t deserve it? Then you won’t have it. The universe gives you exactly what you ask for from your deepest feelings, not from your rational desires. Keep that in mind.

In Health

The Ten of Pentacles points to good times, both present and future. You’re in a state of calm and tranquility, which positively impacts your physical body. You have vitality and a precious fuel driving you: optimism.
If you’re going through any illness or ailment, it’s not serious, and you’re healing well. Likewise, if you’re waiting for any results or specific treatments, the news you receive will be good and encouraging.

In Spirituality

The Ten of Pentacles indicates a time of peace, joy, and great prosperity for you, so how will you share all this? It’s essential to consider sharing, as it’s your way of giving thanks.
Another crucial question arises: When you feel like you have everything, when you’ve reached your peak, do you have space left for your spiritual world, your inner life, or will you push that to the background? That would be a mistake.

The abundance you have now should lead you to deepen your emotional journey; now that you have material peace of mind, you can delve into the invisible mysteries of the spirit. Enjoy all these good feelings, savor them, and fully embrace what you’re experiencing—it’s essential to be mindful of this moment in your life.

The Ten of Pentacles in the Reversed Position

The Ten of PentaclesGeneral Meaning:

Just as this card upright speaks of achievement and culmination, of a solid family, emotional commitments, and financial stability, when reversed, it suggests significant obstacles in reaching some or all of these goals.
The happy family picture, abundant in material and emotional wealth, is distorted; something doesn’t fit. The union has seriously weakened, and overall progress, not just for you but for your family as a whole, is in a delicate state.

Everything has weakened: financial progress and stability, feelings, family unity, businesses, work, and future plans.

This card often appears when a family or marriage is going through serious financial difficulties, when money takes center stage, and arguments arise over it or the lack of it.

I also often see this card in divorces, where everything boils down to dividing assets and liquidating them, or in situations of bankruptcy, broken partnerships, or business closures, where there’s a need to divest and likely lose money.

It’s undoubtedly a negative and concerning card, but it doesn’t mean that all is lost or that tragedy is fully upon you.

Everything happening or that may happen in the future with this card could be temporary, the result of bad decisions or even bad luck, but as with everything in life, the wheel that’s down now will eventually rise again, because life is always in motion. The wheel may turn slowly, and each cycle may feel endless, but it moves, and everything will change when the time is right.

As a card of Pentacles, this Ten places great emphasis on finances and material matters. This is likely where you’ll feel the most serious consequences or challenges, either now or in the near future. Difficulties seem to pile up, and efforts may feel like they’re going nowhere.

There’s a lack of resources, and any investment, no matter how small, may be at risk. It’s a tough financial time, and the problem may lie in poor foundations on which something has been built.

Money problems certainly bring a lot of stress and frustration, and family life can be filled with arguments and tension. So, your general mood is likely not at its best either.

The responsibilities and all the burdens you carry are overwhelming, giving you little room to breathe, which can lead to health problems, insomnia, sadness, anxiety, and anger. You may find yourself trapped in these emotions, riding a negative carousel you can’t seem to escape.

But there’s also another way to interpret this card: You might be fine in terms of your finances and life in general, but you feel empty and bored. It’s the famous “rich kid syndrome,” where you have everything, yet find no pleasure or fulfillment in life.

In this case, the Ten of Pentacles is telling you to be mindful, presently aware of the gifts and blessings in your life, no matter how big or small they may be.

This card doesn’t predict financial problems or hardships; instead, these complications will come if you’re unable to appreciate what you have. This lack of appreciation manifests emotionally, not materially.

It’s rare for us to lack everything. We may not have money, but we have health, or perhaps poor health but lots of love, or no love but good money… there’s always something we have in abundance. Sometimes we have abundance in all areas, but the question is, do we truly appreciate, value, and give thanks for it?

This card could very well refer to someone who has everything but no longer knows what they have or what they want. You may get bored easily, lack motivation, see no future, and everything feels like more of the same. This is a powerful wake-up call to reflect on the blessings the universe has poured into your life.

In Love

The reversed Ten of Pentacles can indicate, especially in a new relationship, that you don’t feel entirely sure the relationship has a future.
The financial aspect is important here, and you may see a great partner, but they don’t provide the financial security for a minimally stable future. This concern grows significantly if you already have children.

In one way or another, the card indicates that either you, your partner, or both don’t see a long-term future, lacking the conviction to fight for a lasting relationship.

In a long-term relationship, the card points to serious structural issues, mainly due to money and financial matters, but there could also be underlying issues like boredom from routine, lack of excitement and passion, or repetitive or absent sensuality. Everything can be resolved, however, if there’s a true commitment to move forward and overcome the crisis.

If you’re single, it’s possible that at this time, you’re not looking for serious commitments, but just trying to have fun, enjoy the moment, and take whatever life offers for now. Don’t expect deep relationships at the moment—“Carpe diem” seems to be the theme of this phase in your life.

In Work

The reversed Ten of Pentacles can indicate salary cuts, demotions, rank reductions, or, in its most dramatic form, job loss. Generally, it points to lost or unearned money, such as asking for a raise and not getting it.
The card also suggests that you may be tempted to change jobs or quit your current one. This is a bad idea, mainly because the thought is coming from a whim rather than rational considerations. The other options out there are very uncertain, so for now, you should stay where you are.

If you’re job hunting, things may take longer than expected. Be particularly cautious about scams or offers that seem too good to be true, because they probably are. Don’t be dazzled by promises and shiny things, as they’re likely false illusions. Watch out for dishonest people.

In Finances and Money

The reversed Ten of Pentacles doesn’t predict catastrophic ruin or poverty in your life, but it does warn you to be extremely cautious. Things are likely to go wrong. What seemed like a good deal may fall through, investments may fail, money may be lost, payments may be delayed, and money you’ve lent might not be returned.
There may be many ideas that seem tempting and opportunities for seemingly easy money, but in reality, they are bad decisions, and you’ll likely lose money. While life is about taking risks and those who don’t risk don’t gain, here you need to exercise great prudence.

Save, don’t spend, and most importantly, don’t be tempted by flashy offers. Now isn’t the time to expand your business, diversify, or start a new venture from scratch. Wait for a more favorable time, which will come in due course.

In Health

The reversed Ten of Pentacles indicates that you’re likely experiencing significant stress and mental and physical exhaustion. You’re not sleeping enough, and the worries never leave your mind.
This takes a toll on your body, and you may be dealing with digestive issues, panic attacks due to anxiety, and even depression during this phase of your life.

This card doesn’t predict serious health issues, but you need to take care of yourself and reduce your nervousness. Balance your diet, exercise, and this will help you sleep better. A good night’s rest makes everything feel better.

In Spirituality

The reversed Ten of Pentacles indicates that you’re likely feeling a lot of anger right now: with yourself, with others, with the world, with the universe. Things aren’t going as you want, and you feel abandoned by everyone, from your family to the divine.
You need to regain your inner peace, understanding that everything is cyclical. Life is like those continuous waves, good and bad, good and bad, that affect us all. This too shall pass because everything passes in this life!

Try to reconnect with your spiritual source, your center of calm. Meditate, do yoga if necessary, but you need to get back to your core because once your center is balanced, everything else will align with it.
